Nu Metallic Lace Topped the Final Select Yearling Sale & Gala Selling For $250,000

After five years of successful, classy events, the Western Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale & Gala has come to an end. In its final year, the highest percentage of completed sales (88 percent) and the $57,714 average were evidence of the quality horseflesh that walked through the ring.

When Hip No. 35, Nu Metallic Lace, entered the Round Up Inn at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, all eyes in the standing-room-only crowd were fixated on the stout, balanced bay roan filly. A daughter of Equi-Stat Elite $16 Million Sire Metallic Cat, Nu Metallic Lace was the picture of beauty and sold for $250,000 to Circle Y Ranch, of Millsap, Texas.

Nu Metallic Lace, consigned by Eddy Longley, is out of the great million-dollar producer Nu I Wood (by Zack T Wood). The filly is a half-sister to past NCHA Open World Champion Special Nu Baby ($486,156, by Dual Rey), Breeder’s Invitational Derby Non-Pro Champion Special Nu Kitty ($305,829, by High Brow Cat) and Special Nu Cat ($132,141, by High Brow Cat). Her full sister – 2012 mare Special Nu Metallica – is an earner of nearly $40,000 and was a Non-Pro finalist at both the NCHA Super Stakes and NCHA Summer Spectacular.

Bobby Patton, of Rocking P Ranch, continued to build his impressive herd when he signed the ticket on the second- and third-highest sellers. He paid $200,000 for Hip No. 13, Metallic Mystified, and $150,000 for Hip No. 30, Foxing Awesum. This came just days after he purchased the highest-seller out of the NCHA Futurity 2-Year-Old Sale for $350,000.

Metallic Mystified, who is by Patton’s stallion Metallic Cat, is a HERDA n/n bay colt out of leading broodmare Sweet Abra (by Abrakadabracre). Consigned by breeder Fults Ranch Ltd., he is a full brother to earners of more than $1 million, according to Equi-Stat, including 2017 NCHA Open Horse of the Year Metallic Rebel.

Sold by Waco Bend Ranch Ltd., Foxing Awesum was the first offspring out of the legendary Dont Look Twice ($850,628) to sell at public auction. The red roan filly is by Equi-Stat Elite $13 Million Sire One Time Pepto and a half-sister to earners of nearly $400,000.
